Stimulus Check Scam Alert

Coronavirus Scam Alert

Good info here from Twinsburg Police Detective Greg Kopniske. Thank you sir!

Stimulus Check Scam

With the onset of stimulus checks being sent out, please be careful of the following:

  1. Your bank or credit union is not going to call and ask you for personal pieces of information. They already have it. The same applies to any purported call from the IRS. They ARE NOT going to call you asking to verify or provide your financial information so you can get a stimulus check faster.
  2. You should NOT provide your direct deposit or other banking information for others to input on your behalf into a portal. If the IRS does not have direct deposit information on file, it will mail a paper check.
  3. Beware of checks showing up, potentially in an odd amount, that require you to call a number or verify information in order to cash it. Asking by phone, email, text or social media for verification of personal or banking information and saying that the information is needed to receive or speed up your stimulus check is a scam.
