The Truth About Social Media – March 12th, 2019

Social Media

I just received a message from the Twinsburg City School District and I wanted to pass it along here because it’s a topic that is of utmost importance in today’s world we live in. The amount of misinformation spread on social is staggering. The amount of bullying that goes on in social media (and not just by kids… I’m talking adults as well) is staggering. I’m thrilled the school district is taking action. The message states:

As you know, our school district makes the safety and security of our students and staff our top priority.  Recent events both in our school community as well as across the state and our nation have led us to seek ways to provide factual information to our parents about ways to help their children make wise choices in matters related to the use of the internet and most particularly social media.  Just last month, our Twinsburg District Council PTA partnered with the Twinsburg City School District to present information about the safe use of the internet.  We continue to seek community partners who can assist the school district in providing information to our families so that our students are supported and knowledgeable about making wise decisions.

To that end, the Twinsburg City School District is proud to partner with the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, local law enforcement authorities including Chief Chris Noga and the Twinsburg Police Department, Aurora Schools, Nordonia Schools and our community cable show provider, Community Focus, to present “The Scary Truth About #Social Media”, a livestream presentation Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.  Details are provided in the attached flyer.

Please join us virtually via this important livestreamed program on Tuesday, March 12th to learn ways you can help protect and support your child.  The program will be accessible via our District website and the Community Focus website after that date.
